From Unity to Trumbull
The town began as Unity, a village that northern Stratford residents petitioned to form in 1725; it merged with Long Hill, organized in 1740, to become North Stratford in 1744. North Stratford won full independence from Stratford in 1797 and took its current name honoring merchant and statesman Jonathan Trumbull.
Later incorporation, larger lots
Because Trumbull didn't take its current form until 1797 — later than the shoreline towns around it — much of its housing stock reflects 20th-century subdivision rather than colonial-era lot lines, with bigger parcels and longer supply runs from the street to the house. That distance is often the first thing worth checking when pressure drops at a far-corner fixture.
